Okami

I know it’s a game but I think Okami has some of the best art direction I have every seen in the vast and bloodthursty video game arena. Basing much of its design on old japanese art styles including the Heian period in Japan as well as ukiyoe and kirie paintings, the game has beautiful visuals and a very original art style. And just as an added bonus there is actual research behind the ideas, characters and stories.
